The Volunteer Center
United
Way's Volunteer Center is one of Volusia and Flagler Counties largest resources
devoted solely to the promotion and nurturing of volunteerism and community
service. Working within the community since 1977, the Volunteer Center plays an
integral role in United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties' mission to increase the
organized capacity of our community to care for its people.
The Volunteer Center
recruits, develops, refers and recognizes volunteers for hundreds of nonprofit
organizations and agencies community wide. Based on your skills, interests and
time restraints, we can help individuals, students, families, community
organizations and businesses find volunteer opportunities.
The Volunteer Center works to provide nonprofit agencies with volunteers and training to
fulfill their organization’s goals and needs.
"Everyone has a strength
to share. Often it is a skill or talent they've come to take for granted,
but one that can make a difference in the life of somebody else if properly
deployed"
Bill Shore, The

volunteering really do?
In a word,
everything. Without volunteers, United Way and many of its partners and agencies
simply could not exist. From community leaders who serve on our board, to the
thousands of men and women who pitch in and help throughout the counties,
volunteering makes the difference between hopelessness and hope.
4. What
kinds of volunteering are there?
There are
literally hundreds of ways to volunteer. You will be asked specific questions
about the kind of work you would like to do, the groups you would like most to
work with, and other info. This ensures that you are linked up with an activity
that is very close to what you are most comfortable doing. You can also opt for
a one-time volunteering or ongoing volunteering, whichever one works best for
you.
5. What if
I'm asked to do something I would rather not do?
You will never
be asked to do something you don't want to do. With hundreds of places where
concerned, intelligent volunteers are needed, there are always ample
opportunities to connect you with something that suits your particular tastes
and skills.
