United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties’ Volunteer Center is proud to once again present the "Volunteer Management Training Series." This 3-day, 6-course series is a high quality, comprehensive workshop in Volunteer Management for community organizations and volunteer managers. Our next workshop is scheduled for November 2, 9, & 16, 2009 at Daytona State College.

Topics to be discussed include: Understanding Volunteering, Recruiting and Placing Volunteers, Planning a Volunteer Program, Orienting and Training Volunteers, Supervising Volunteers and Evaluating Your Volunteer Program.  Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive the Florida Volunteer Administration Certificate from Florida Association of Volunteer Centers and The Governor's Commission on Volunteerism, Volunteer Florida.

According to the Association for Volunteer Management, the case for Volunteer Resources Management is as follows:

1. Volunteers need support and leadership to be most effective and to sustain their commitment and involvement.

2. Volunteers are a necessary and critical resource for healthy communities.

3. Mobilizing citizens to volunteer is very challenging in today’s environment due to competition and lack of discretionary time.

4. Nonprofit and public organizations need help meeting this challenge. They must develop or enhance their capacity (skills, knowledge, and abilities) to effectively recruit, focus and support volunteer resources.

5. Competent leaders and managers build organizational and community capacity to maximize volunteer resources to meet community needs.

What others are saying about this training:

"Even after 30 years of working with nonprofit organizations as a speaker and trainer, I had plenty to learn from with the content offered in the Volunteer Management Certification course. The United Way's Volunteer Center provides a great service by offering this program.  It will be well worth the time for every participant."

           -Hardy Smith
            Hardy Smith Consulting

"After 20+ years serving the non-profit, profit and military volunteer, this was the most comprehensive training I have attended.  The networking alone was worth the time away from the office.  Volusia and Flagler Counties have fabulous people in this field.  It was a pleasure just getting to know them.  The training was an added bonus!"

           -Mary Flynn Boener
            Stewart-Marchman-Act-Behavioral Health

"The information received from the Volunteer Workshop was very helpful to our agency.  We found that in adverting for Volunteers, we were not portraying our agency or the need in a way that would compel individuals to volunteer.  During the class we were taught to make our ads exciting and to let those volunteering know what their service would do for others and themselves.  We changed our volunteers ads on United Ways Volunteer web site and immediately began to get results with many new volunteers asking to serve our community at our outreach center.  We thank United Way for providing this wonderful workshop.  It is a must for all non-profit agencies who utilize volunteers in their agency."

-Phyllis Gregory
Founder, Community Life Center

I learned so much from the Volunteer training!  I have 14 years experience with working with volunteers.  This training helped me to realize that there was much more to learn when working with volunteers than I thought.  This is a must have training for anyone working with volunteers.  This should be a part of every agencies training curriculum for staff who supervise volunteers.

-Ernest Hamilton
