Alzheimer’s Association, Central and North Florida Chapter
Meets: Tuesday, September 14, 2010, Thursday, November 11, 2010, Thursday, January 13, 2011, Thursday, March 10, 2011, Thursday, May 12, 2011. All meetings are held at 6:00pm unless otherwise specified.  Locations in Orlando to be determined. Conference Call-in available aswe cover such a wide territory.
Mission: To eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Serving: 31 counties including Flagler and Volusia
Experience/Training Needed: Accounting, Administration, Fundraising, Planning and Special Events
Demographics: Representation from both Flagler and Volusia Counties. The Board needs to increase its diversity, but is open to all who are interested.

Children’s Home Society of Florida—North Coastal Division
Meets: First Tuesday of each month, 5:30pm-6:30pm, Cobb Cole Conference Room, Daytona Beach. Conference Call is available on limited basis.
Mission: Embracing Children. Inspiring Lives.
Serving: Volusia, Flagler & Putnam Counties.
Needs: Community leaders and individuals that can work to advocate for children living in foster care.
Experience/Training Needed: Administration, Advertising, Community Relations, Marketing
Demographics: Representation from both Flagler and Volusia Counties. The Board needs to increase its diversity, but is open to all who are interested.
Additional Agency Information: Children’s Services Agency offering foster care, early childhood education, abuse prevention, family counseling, independent living services, clinical service, supervised visitation, emergency shelter and residential group homes.

Community Foundation of East Central Florida
Meets: the 3rd Monday of the Month, 5:30pm, rotates from DeLand Library, Daytona Beach and conference calls.
Mission: Is to enhance the quality of life by increasing perpetual giving, connecting donors and building community leadership.
Serving: Volusia, Flagler and Putnam Counties
Needs: Governance, Finance, Grant Advisory Committee and others as needed
Experience/Training Needed: Banking, Financial Management, Fundraising, Marketing, Real Estate
Demographics: Seeking to expand Hispanic representation.  
Additional Agency Information: The community foundation works with individual donors to assist them in their giving.  We build and hold endowed and non-endowed funds that support the cause a donor is passionate about, providing a long term strategic way of giving.  We also act as a catalyst for change by identifying gaps of service and bring together people or agencies who can address the need. 

Family Renew Community, Inc.:
Meets: Third Thursday of the Month, Noon, at Center for Business Excellence in Daytona Beach
Mission: Family Renew Community considers homelessness in to be a problem worthy of major concern. To this end, Family Renew Community, in conjunction with religious organizations, governmental bodies and the private and public sectors, works to provide the support, services and transitional housing needed by homeless families with children. The purpose is to achieve both permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
Serving: Volusia and Flagler counties. We are currently seeking board members from West and Southeast Volusia County.
Experience/Training Needed: We are in need of expertise on our board which would enhance management. Other areas in which we are need of experience include: Banking, Education, Marketing, Personnel/Human Resources, and Legal.
Demographics: It has been recommended that we diversify our board both ethnically and geographically.

Florida Hospital HospiceCare-Advisory Committee
Meets: Committee meetings are quarterly—dates and times to be determined by the availability of group in attendance – location varies for easy access. Three regional committees representing Flagler, East Volusia, and West Volusia
Mission: Florida Hospital HospiceCare is the area’s only not-for-profit hospice organization certified by the Joint Commission. It is our mission to provide quality end-of-life support for the medical, emotional and spiritual needs of hospice patients and their caregivers.
Serving: Volusia and Flagler Counties
Needs: Members to serve in an advisory, non-administrative and non-voting capacity. Support and/or participate in at least one community outreach or fundraising opportunity annually. Serve at least a two-year commitment. Engage in open dialogue with HospiceCare team members to discuss issues including but not limited to: current and new services; short and long-term goals; community outreach activities; identification of stakeholders and partners; challenges and opportunities, including public opinions and awareness.
Experience/Training Needed: Advocacy, Fundraising, Marketing, Special Events and knowledge of the community.

Great Kids Explorers Club:
Meets: Tuesday, October 26, 2010 and Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in Ormond Beach
Mission: Great Kids is a local charity organization that helps children ages 5-12 succeed through academic and social skill tutoring. Our mission is to partner with schools, churches and civic organizations to establish and develop Life Skill Enrichment and Tutorial programs for at-risk and economically disadvantaged children through the Club Affiliate Program CAP. These programs will help at-risk children to recognize their God-given talents and unique value. This will be accomplished through academic and character education and surrounding the children with positive role models.
Serving: Volusia County
Experience/Training Needed: Board Members with experience in the following areas: Accounting: To perform in house simple audits; Communications: To assist in E-Marketing, newsletters and Face Book; Community Relations/Public Relations: To speak on behalf of Great Kids within our community to groups like Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs; Fundraising and Special Events: To help develop and implement new fundraising special events as well as our current events like Mini Golf FUN Day and Celebration Luncheon; Legal-Civil: An attorney that will review standing Memoranda Of Understanding agreements, leases and other general on-going legal matters. And can guide the legal aspects of our product development like Copy Right; Marketing: To serve on team in marketing various products like The Great Kids Program in a Box, On Line Tool Box, The Great Kids Club Affiliate Program: CAP and Great Kids Practice-Apply-Learn PAL student workbooks.

PACE Center for Girls, Inc.
Meets: 2nd Thursday of every month, from 7:45am-9am at the Center in Ormond Beach.
Mission: PACE provides girls and young women an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training and advocacy.
Serving: Volusia and Flagler Counties.
Needs: We are currently seeking board representation from Flagler County. Individuals with: leadership skills; available time; fundraising experience; knowledge of community resources; and political knowledge. Individuals whom are: child advocates; big picture oriented; goal oriented; team player; and an out of the box thinker.
Experience/Training Needed: Advocacy, Community Relations, Fundraising, Special Events, and Planning
Additional Agency Information: PACE Center for Girls, Inc. is a community-based, gender responsive prevention, diversion and early intervention program serving girls, ages 12-17, in 17 locations across the state. The program fulfills the Department of Juvenile Justice’s statutory requirement to provide prevention and gender-specific programming for girls. PACE understands the relationship between victimization and delinquency in girls and helps girls turn their lives around by providing quality, gender responsive education, counseling and career planning. The results are that girls stay in school, substantially reduce their chances of being involved in crime or entering the costly juvenile justice system and have hope for their futures. As a result, PACE reduces the significant long term costs associated with teen pregnancy, substance abuse and unemployment and long term economic dependency.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
Meets: 4th Thursday of ever month (no meeting July and December), 7:30am-9am in Orlando
Mission: Feeding people in need.
Serving: Volusia, Brevard, Lake, Seminole, Orange, and Osceola
Needs: Governing Board member to represent Volusia County
Experience/Training Needed: Fundraising, Marketing, and Planning

The House Next Door
Meets: 2nd Tuesday of each month except July at 5:30pm in DeLand.
Mission: The House Next Door nurtures and empowers families to help build stronger communities.
Serving: Volusia County
Needs: Development, Property and Finance expertise
Experience/Training Needed: Community Relations, Facilities Management, Public Relations and Social Work
Demographics: Seeking to expand African American representation.

Volusia Literacy Council:
Meets: Third Tuesday of the Month, Noon, at Volusia Literacy Council, 230 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach
Mission: “To provide educational services to individuals and families through tutoring in reading, writing, math and workplace skills.”
Serving: Volusia County, with limited work in Flagler
Experience/Training Needed: We are in need of board members who believe strongly in our mission, which is tutoring adults whose reading and math skills are below basic literacy levels and tutoring adults who speak English as a second language.  We are looking for leaders who can help us market our value to the public, offer new ideas for fund-raising and be able to help with special events. Specific areas of experience include: Advocacy, Communications, Community Relations, Fundraising, and Marketing.
Demographics: The Board needs to increase its diversity, but is open to all who are interested.
Additional Agency Information: The Volusia Literacy Council, with roots back to 1979, is the only agency in Volusia County – public or private – that helps adults who cannot read or do math at basic literacy levels. We also tutor for students who speak English as a second language. Most of our students come from low-income households, including English as a second language students.  Currently, 81 percent are at or below the poverty level, and only 2.6 percent live in households making more than $35,000.
