The Community Foundation Grants Previously Awarded As we think about the future of our community, we find it important to use our Foundation Grant Program in a way that proactively addresses the most critical, documented needs in our community. The Board of the Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $500,000. Below is a sample selection of grants previously awarded. Boy Scouts, Central Florida Council: $3,500 for Scout-Reach to purchase uniforms and camping equipment for 3 packs in Seville, Pierson, and Espanola. Boys & Girls Club of Volusia-Flagler: $10,000 to renovate a facility to house a new Boys & Girls Club program in Bunnell at the Carver Community Center. Boys & Girls Club of Volusia-Flagler: $10,000 for renovation of Holly Hill Youth Center. Completion of this project guarantees the club exclusive use of the facility for $1 per year for 20 years. Center for the Visually Impaired: $3,000 for Operation Outreach for developing mobile services and specialized equipment in order to reach residents of Flagler County and West Volusia. Child Care Resource Network: $4,500 for the Caring for Kids program to improve the quality of child care being offered by unregulated child care providers through training, education, and loan program for developmental, age-appropriate activities and toys. Children's Home Society: $10,000 for the Family Tree House, a center offering a safe, homelike setting for court-approved family visitations when children are separated from parents due to abuse/neglect issues. Conklin Center for Multi-Handicapped Blind: $3,304 for Enhanced Self-Sufficiency to purchase four TDDs for visually impaired users. Easter Seal Society: $4,629 for the Bright Beginnings Infant Program; start-up funding for a day care center providing full day pre-school and child care services. Family Life Center: $7,500 for a Computer Lab; installation of computer lab and tutorial software at the Transitional Housing facility. Family Renew Community: $4,000 for Electrical Repairs; upgrading and repairing electrical system to repair security lighting and allow for installation of window unit air conditioners. Flagler Senior Services: $3,000 in matching transportation funds to develop and increase public transportation. Flagler Retired Senior Volunteer Program: $3,000 to upgrade computer system to enable RSVP to meet growing demands of volunteer inquiries, referrals, and placements. Greater Daytona Beach YMCA: $10,000 for seed funding to start a YMCA in the New Smyrna Beach area. Healthy Communities: $5,000 each year for two years for a water instruction program to reduce the incidences of drowning and near-drowning. Helen Kottle Memorial Day Care Center: $5,000 for emergency assistance and stabilization, new equipment, carpeting and supplies. House Next Door: $5,000 for The 3 R's: Relationships, Responsibilities and Respect, a proactive approach to provide weekly counseling sessions at DeLand High for teens experiencing difficulties with destructive behavior. Intracoastal Aging Alliance: $15,265 for initiation of a Foster Grandparent Program in Flagler County, patterned after a successful Volusia County program. Mid-Florida Housing Partnership: $9,000 for an outdoor, enclosed play area for children of clients of both MFHP and Serenity House. PACE Center for Girls: $10,260 for Girlspeak for the development of programs advocating safe, substance-free lifestyles. Palmetto Place Advocates: $6,500 for the purchase and installation of 61 ceilings for a transitional housing program. Second Harvest Food Bank: $4,150 for purchase of an electric pallet jack to increase efficiency. Serenity House: $9,000 to replace a van used to transport clients in a family substance abuse treatment program. Serenity House: $5,000 for re-roofing of Serenity House West, a forty bed residential substance abuse treatment facility. UCP: $5,155 for the expansion of the Evaluation Department, purchase of specialized equipment to expand ability to test assembly skills and also to administer tests in Spanish.
